PV Standards Update – October 2009
PV Standards Update – October 2009
James Amano, Director, SEMI International Standards
PV Standards efforts at SEMI continue to gain momentum – the month of September saw several proposals for new Standards work receive formal approval to start work.
- New initiatives to standardize thin film substrate size and create classification criteria for crystalline silicon solar cells are now underway in Japan and Taiwan.
- And in Europe, several new activities gained approval to start; most notably, a PV Wafer and Cell Carrier effort, led by Q-Cells, and a solar grade silicon feedstock specification activity, driven by several silicon manufacturers, including Wacker, PV Crystalox, Hemlock, and REC Group.
- Similar high-impact proposals can also be expected at next month’s North America PV Standards Committee meeting.
Make sure to read the next issue of Standards Watch (a bi-monthly newsletter for International Standards Development efforts) for details on the above activities.
