SEMI China Photovoltaic Standards Committee Update
By SEMI China
The SEMI China Photovoltaic Standards Committee’s 2012 Winter meeting was held in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on November 3rd. The China PV industry is increasingly active in SEMI Standards development and over 90 technologists from 36 companies attended the meeting, in addition to the domestic leading enterprise representatives from Astroenergy, CESI, GCL, GDsolar, JA Solar, LDK, Suntech, Trina Solar, and Yingli, etc. International authoritative experts from IEC also attended the meeting. SEMI PV standards development activities in China are rapidly growing in scope and influence.
In new business, after careful committee review, 5 documents from 4 task forces were authorized for ballot in Cycle1-2013, these include:
- Doc. 5384, New Standards: Specification for Package protection technology for PV Modules, drafted by Crystalline Silicon PV Module Task Force
- Doc. 5385, New Standards: Test Method for the content of Vinyl Acetate (VA) in Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) applied in PV modules—Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), drafted by Crystalline Silicon PV Module Task Force
- Doc. 5428, New Standard: Specification for Impurities in Polyethylene Packaging Materials for Polysilicon Feedstock, drafted by Poly-Silicon Packaging Materials Task Force
- Doc. 5382, New Standard: Specification for Quasi-monocrystalline Silicon Wafers used in Photovoltaic Solar Cells, drafted by PV Silicon Wafer Task Force
- Doc. 5475, New Standard: Specification for Anti-reflective-coated Glass, Used in Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Modules, drafted by Anti-reflective Coated Glass Task Force
In addition, Yingli Solar also submitted 2 SNARFs, Specification for Conductive Film for PV Modules and Specification for Front Surface Silver-Aluminum Paste, Used in N-Type Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells. After discussion, most of the committee members thought that the application of the technology would not be well accepted, however, it could be a discussion for standards in the future. The Committee gave Yingli a high degree of recognition for its active participation in the SEMI Standards activities.
The Committee will meet next on March 18, 2013 in Shanghai during SOLARCON China 2013. For the meeting agenda, please visit http://www.semi.org/en/node/42291.
